Pharmaceutical/Food & Beverage
Pressure and level measurement in the food, dairy, beverage and pharmaceutical industries require very specialized, highly accurate pressure sensors/transmitters. The sanitary process market requires pressure sensors that can withstand clean in place (CIP) and sterilize in place (SIP) rigors, provide fast temperature recovery, digital outputs and specific wetted parts. Applications include balance tanks, silos, surge tanks, batching or mixing processes, flavor systems, pasteurization, emulsifying, filling machines, meat processing and homogenization. Viatran offers several application notes explaining how our pressure transmitters are used in the the sanitary industry. Below are two such examples.
Cold-Filtered Pressure Solutions
Beer manufacturers use cold filtering to eliminate sediment, bacteria, and yeast from beer. Manufacturers claim that this process, unlike heat pasteurization, preserves the true taste of beer. Pressure sensors are used in beer and other beverage manufacturing to hydrostatically monitor tank level and to measure build-up across filters. Sanitary fittings and equipment are required so that the process fluid will not become contaminated. To learn more about how a brewery in upstate New York measured the pressure drop across a 6 foot diameter yeast filter to signal necessary cleaning or replacement of the filter, please click on the application note Cold-Filtered Pressure Solutions.
High Pressure Measurement in Food Processing
Equipment in the food processing industries generates high pressures. These pressures causes pikes, high temperatures and vibrations, which are very hard on controlling instruments. Viatran has developed a method to accurately measure pressure while protecting the instrumentation. Viatran's 25 Series isolator is an ideal solution for food processing applications. Existing T-mounts have recesses and dead pots where process media accumulates. This requires more flushes and cleaning solvents for clean in place (CIP). With some T-mount process slurries, complete disassembling may be required.
