Gas and liquid molecules are in constant, random motion balled "Brownian" motion. The average speed of these molecules increases with increasing temperature. When a gas or liquid molecule collides with a surface, momentum is imparted into the surface. If the molecule is heavy or moving fast, more momentum is imparted.
